Here we have compiled a list of answers to some of the most common questions we get. If you need any more information or have another question, please don't hesitate to contact us.

  • Are the classes ready? When do we get information on classes?
    • A: 

      Classes are presented on Registration Day, August 22nd.

       

  • Do you follow the Swedish Curriculum?
    • A: 

      Yes, we follow the Swedish curriculum, which from Autumn 2011 includes grading from Year 6. For students in Years 4-5 we give grade like assessments.

      We also offer IGCSE exams from Cambridge University for students in Years 8-9.

       

  • How many year groups and classes will you have this Autumn?
    • A: 

      We will have five each in Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, and Year 7 classes. Four classes in Year 8 and two in Year 9.
  • How do I find the student portal?
  • How many students are there be in each class?
    • A: 

      In Years 6-9 the classes have 30 students.  The aesthetic classes, like music or art, have half class in Years 6-9. 

      Years 4-5 will have 28 students in each class.

       

  • How many teachers are there in a year group?
    • A: 

      In Years 6-9 the students have subject teachers, and mentors for each class.

      In Year 4-5 there will be a class teacher for each class. A subject teacher will come to the class to teach 2-3 subjects.

       

  • Which subjects have have Swedish/English as the tuition language?
    • A: 

      Science, Math, English, Music, Home Economics and Art are in English. Swedish and SO are always in Swedish. Craft and Physical Education are taught in Swedish. We use Swedish Mathematics books, while we teach Mathematics in English.

      In Year 4 Science will also be taught in Swedish.

  • Do the students get some kind of terminology in English/Swedish in the subjects where English is the tuition language?
    • A: 

      Every class that is taught in English has the key vocabulary words put on the board and in Schoolsoft in Swedish. In Maths the workbook will be in Swedish, and the teacher will teach in English.
  • Where do the students have lunch?
    • A: 

      We have catered lunch in the dining halls on the 10th floor.  The lunch meals consist of a salad bar, a fish dish, a meat dish and a vegetarian dish and many days there is soup.  There is crisp bread, soft bread, fruit and milk every day.

      Students sit by the class in the dining hall together with a teacher.

  • Where does the Physical Education take place?
    • A: 

      We have a full size gym hall around the corner, 3 min. walk from the school with changing rooms and showers. 

      Students in Year 4-5 will be accompanied by an adult when the have Physical Education.

       

  • What school hours do you have?
    • A: 

      The average is 8.30 to 3.30.  Some days may begin earlier and end a little earlier/later. 

      In Years 4-5 the average is 08.00/08.30-14.00/14.30. We work towards starting and ending all classes in the same year group at roughly the same time so that students from different classes can travel together.

       

  • Does the school have a play ground/school yard?
    • A: 

      There is a play area behind the school (outside floor 9 and 10) with a small football pitch, a small basketball court and a ping-pong table.  There are places for students to sit. We have games that can be checked out to play.

      The area will be increased for our students in year 4-5 with equipment suitable for the age group. 

       

  • Do the students receive any material from the school?
    • A: 

      Like every "Kommun" school the students will, at the beginning of the year, be supplied with a ruler, pencils, eraser and paper. 

      Books will be utilized in courses that require them and the school will purchase the books. The books will be on loan to the students.

       

  • Is there any home work help?
    • A: 

      IES Nacka has tutorial in every subject, for one hour, on a weekly basis. This means a subject teacher is in the class room to assist students in the subject.

       

  • Are there any additional activities in the school?
    • A: 

      IES Nacka have school clubs.  This year we have had debate, writing studio, newspaper, step dance, field hockey, basketball and pilates.  These clubs are offered for one hour a week for 9 week blocks and will change as the year and the skills of the teachers dictate.

      In Year 4-5 we will offer the "IES Nacka Junior Club". This is an afternoon club where students can stay after school. A snack will be served and there will be activities. The Junior Club will be open on school days. There is a term fee payable in advance for the Junior Club.

       

  • Does the school pay for bus passes?
    • A: 

      No, the school does not pay for bus passes.
  • Which modern languages can the students choose to study?
    • A: 

      This coming school year students in Year 7 will be offered Spanish and French. 

      Students in Years 8-9 continue with their current modern language choice.

       

  • Does the school pay for bus passes?

  • Are there subject classrooms or home rooms?
    • A: 

      Students in Years 6-9 will have a home room where most of the teaching takes place. Certain subjects and activities, textile, woodwork, art and lab, will be taught in special classrooms.

      Students in Year 4-5 have their lessons in their own classroom. They will have their own desk with their school material. All classes will be placed on the same floor - The Junior School floor.

       

  • When can I get information of my child's schedule?
    • A: 

      Schedules wil be handed out to the students on Monday August 22nd. They will also be available in SchoolSoft.
  • Do you offer any home languages?
    • A: 

      At IES Nacka we offer any home languages in cooperation with Nacka kommun. Most students study their home language in the school after or before school hours, some students go to other schools for tuition before or after school. Students that live in communities outside Nacka kommun also have the possibility of studying their home lanhuage in the home community.

      English and Swedish cannot be studied as home languages at IES Nacka.
